Highland’s Newest Venture: Sixth Store for New Start

New Start Highland, a social enterprise, has opened its sixth shop in the Highlands today. Located on Henderson Road in Inverness, next to Tiso, the shop will feature second hand furniture and a Unique Ness concession. Unique Ness, which currently has its own space in the Eastgate Centre, sells high-end, upcycled pieces.

James Dunbar, the Chief Executive of New Start Highland, expressed his excitement for the new pop-up retail space, stating that it was made possible by the generosity of the local community. He also mentioned that the organization’s two furniture outlets in Carsegate Road North continue to see high footfall, and he hopes that customers will also visit their other shops in Dingwall and Thurso.

Dunbar emphasized the need for affordable, high-quality furniture in light of the ongoing cost of living crisis. He stated that promoting reuse is a key part of their mission and that their commercial activities, such as removals, storage, and house clearances, help fund their charitable services.

New Start Highland offers various services to support those in need, including furniture provision, employability training, and housing support. As they approach their 25th year, the organization is experiencing growth and has plans for further expansion. In the last year alone, they have served the community over 110,000 times and diverted more than 70,000 items from landfills.

The new shop will be open six days a week, from 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. For more information or to inquire about retail staff opportunities, visit newstarthighland.org.
